We frequently take intra-oral images of various conditions. These images serve several important purposes in assisting in patient treatment.
They include documenting various lesions and any changes that may occur, assist patients in showing them areas they may be having difficulty keeping clean, educating patients so they can see and better understand their specific dental problems.
These intra-oral images also assist us in communicating conditions to insurance carriers and referring doctors and improve communication with our dental laboratories to provide the desired cosmetic results for our patients.
“Clinical photography is an incredibly useful and essential tool for the modern dental practice. High quality intraoral and extraoral images can aid in the diagnosis, treatment planning and medico-legal documentation of a case, self evaluation of the quality of [the dentist’s] work and improve communications with other clinicians, laboratory technicians and patients.
While many dentists utilize "intraoral cameras" for this purpose, the limited capabilities of that modality cannot compare with what can be achieved with even a modest digital camera equipped with an appropriate macro lens and flash. Used properly, macro photography can provide image quality that is nearly equivalent to microscopic imaging.” Source: American Dental Association
