Dr. Perrott's Practice performs senior dentistry (sometimes called geriatric dentistry), both for preventive care and to address the special dental health issues of seniors.
With aging comes reduced levels of growth and repair for all normal tissues - part of the processes that lead to human maturation. As such, stresses resulting from impaired nutrition, slips and falls impact dental and periodontal (gum) health more than among younger people.
Further, seniors often take prescription drugs to address health issues and these can have side-effects that lead to degradation of teeth, gums and mouth.
If you're missing one or more teeth, you may notice a difference in chewing and speaking. There are options to help restore your smile. Bridges help maintain the shape of your face, as well as alleviating the stress in your bite by replacing missing teeth.Details
A dental implant is an artificial tooth root (synthetic material) that is surgically anchored into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge in place. The benefit of using implants is that they don't rely on neighboring teeth for support, they are permanent and stable. Implants are a good solution to tooth loss because they look and feel like natural teeth.Details
A denture is a removable replacement for missing teeth and adjacent tissues. It is made of acrylic resin, sometimes in combination with various metals. Complete dentures replace all the teeth, while a partial denture fills in the spaces created by missing teeth and prevents other teeth from changing position.Details
The application of sealants is a very simple non-invasive procedure that seals out decay and is tolerated well by most all children. When we do have to place a filling because of decay, we use either our quiet electric headpieces, or a laser to make it as calming and easy on the child as possible.Details

Dentures are no longer the only way to restore a mouth that has little or no non-restorable teeth. Strategically placed support, or implants, can now be used to support permanently cemented bridges, eliminating the need for a denture. The cost tends to be greater, but the implants and bridges more closely resemble the "feel" of real teeth. Dental implants are becoming the alternative of choice to dentures, but not everyone is a candidate for implants. Learn more about Dental Implants ...
